Yoga retreats, spa hotels and hotels with spas are becoming evermore popular, springing up all over the world. India is home to a wonderful collection of them. They are scattered all over the subcontinent - in the hills, on the beach , in cities and they vary in style, comfort and price. Some offer traditional spa therapies and others offer Ayurvedic treatments. Ayurveda is a Vedic science and is also known as ‘the Science of Life’.

ANANDA...
Ananda in the Himalayas
is India’s first and only
destination spa hotel, in the
Himalayan foothills, close to the holy town of Rishikesh. Ranked in the Top 10 spa hotels of the world, this wonderful resort offers
peaceful solitude whilst surrounded by luxury.
The 21, 000 sq ft spa and facilities here are sublime, having 20 treatment rooms for just 75 bedrooms. They excel at Ayurvedic treatments, Thai and Swedish massages, aromatherapy and hydro-therapy, to name a few. The yoga pavilion has inspiring views across the valley below. The heated swimming pool is also a perfect place to relax at in a climate that is ideal almost year round.

Ananda is accessed by train from Delhi to Haridwar followed by a 1 hour drive. It is also reached by road from Delhi (6-7 hours) or by a shorter journey from Corbett or Mussoorie.

THE TAJ RESIDENCY...
THE TAJ RESIDENCY...
The Taj Residency lies a short
way up the Malabar Coast at Calicut, and boasts an excellent Ayurvedic centre. Managed by the Ayushman Ayurvedic Trust, one of the leading such institutions in India it truly excels at this age-old system of herbal healing, yoga and meditation. Since the Ayurvedic science believes that the human body operates in cycles that occur in multiples of 7, most of the
programmes offered here are designed over a period of seven days, stretching to 35 days.

However, arrangements for shorter programmes can be made. The hotel itself is modern, clean and comfortable and is based in town, with views over the sea, thus the sea air helps ensure the success of your treatments. Although Calicut is not a hugely exciting town but 10kms from here is the place where Vasco da Gama first set foot in India, just over 500 years ago.

Calicut is reached by air from Mumbai and Goa (sporadic timetable). It is also accessed by road from Wynad, Ooty, Cochin and Tellicherry.
